For more than 10 years, since 2004, the Council has been convening state agencies to discuss transition services for students with disabilities. Today, the group calls itself the “Employment Roundtable” because the focus has broadened to employment services for school age individuals and beyond. The original group of less than four representatives gradually expanded to a group of 11 agencies which collectively send more than 25 representatives every month.
From the start, three fundamental goals have guided the group:
- Increase communication across agencies;
- Do a better job of supporting individuals with their employment goals, especially as they move through a complex service system; and
- Increase employment outcomes among people with developmental disabilities across Tennessee.
