Support to Siblings

photo of african-american young teen with down syndrome and his sisterSince 2003, the Council has worked to provide support to siblings of people with developmental disabilities of all ages though research and building a peer support network.

We supported launching SibShops in TN, which are workshops for young children who have brothers or sisters with disabilities.

In Aug. 2016, we funded a facilitator training to teach individuals to lead Sibshops for young siblings in TN.

The Council continues to work in partnership with our Developmental Disabilities Network partners at Vanderbilt Kennedy Center to promote opportunities for peer support for adult siblings through TABS (TN Adult Brothers and Sisters of people with disabilities).

TABS hosts monthly planning calls for activities related to sibling support and hosts various workshops and events for siblings of people with disabilities.
