Support to Siblings
Since 2003, the Council has worked to provide support to siblings of people with developmental disabilities of all ages though research and building a peer support network.
We supported launching SibShops in TN, which are workshops for young children who have brothers or sisters with disabilities. In Aug. 2016, we funded a facilitator training to teach individuals to lead Sibshops for young siblings in TN.
The Council works in partnership with our Developmental Disabilities Network partners at Vanderbilt Kennedy Center to promote opportunities for peer support for adult siblings through TABS (TN Adult Brothers and Sisters of people with disabilities). TABS is TN's state chapter of the national Sibling Leadership Network and aims to empower siblings of people with disabilities with information and support from their peers.
During 2020-2021, TABS is hosting free monthly virtual workshops by Zoom for adult brothers and sisters of people with disabilities. Follow the TABS Facebook or subscribe to the Council's e-news to learn about upcoming events.
