Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Block Grant

The Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services receives the Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Block Grant (SABG) from the U.S. Department of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to provide prevention, treatment and recovery support services, and activities for people who are at-risk of or have a substance abuse problem.

Individuals will receive priority for admission to licensed treatment agencies if he or she meets one or more of the following:

  • Pregnant intravenous drug users
  • Pregnant substance users
  • Intravenous drug users
  • Medically Monitored Withdrawal Management (Crisis Detoxification)

Income Eligibility  

Prevention:  No requirements

Treatment:  Meeting the 133% Federal Poverty Guideline.

Services                

Prevention:  Evidence-based and culturally-responsive programming to individuals such as children of parents who abuse substances, children with incarcerated parents, and children in foster care; and county-level coalitions that foster community environments which discourage substance misuse and abuse.

Treatment:  A variety of services targeting adolescents and adults who are in need of treatment and/or recovery support services including detoxification, clinical treatment, and HIV outreach.
