Regional Overdose Prevention Specialists
Regional Overdose Prevention Specialists ROPS are located throughout the state of Tennessee as a point of contact for training and education and for the distribution of naloxone. The ROPS have varied backgrounds, including peer nurses’ that are in recovery, paramedics, and peer specialists. They work in conjunction with the community anti-drug coalitions and in counties without coalitions. The ROPS provide trainings to medical professionals, law enforcement, pharmacists, treatment providers, key stakeholders, and other audiences on topics such as best practices for prescribing opioids, pain management, recognizing potential cases of substance use disorder, referrals to treatment programs, chronic pain management without opioids, signs and symptoms of overdose, and preventing overdose.
