The Commission is dedicated to working for older Tennesseans and adults with disabilities by providing leadership and guidance for a system that promotes health, dignity, independence, and security through an array of community and in-home services, the protection of rights, and the implementation of best practices.
A growing number of older Tennesseans, as well as Tennesseans with special requirements, need care. Learn about what it means both to need a caregiver and to be one. Read what other caregivers have to say in a forum provided by Agingcare.com.
Information and Assistance, also known as I&A, is the practice of bringing people and services together. You may not know who you need to call, but you know your story. If you don't know where else to start, start with I&A. Information and Assistance staff look for the best and most accurate resources to meet the needs of our callers.
This program provides free assistance to elderly Tennesseans residing in nursing homes, homes for the aged, assisted care living facilities, and adult care homes. An Ombudsman is available to help residents and their families resolve questions or problems and will advocate for solutions to problems for qualified residents of long-term care facilities. Our bodies change as we age. Our body's specific needs also change as we age. What doesn't change is our basic need for healthy food. TCAD works to provide both information on good eating choices, as well as healthy food, for Tennessee seniors who may not get as much food as they need.
OPTIONS for Community Living is a state-funded program. The program was created to provide the elderly, as well as adults with disabilities, home- and community-based service choices. This program is available through the local Area Agencies on Aging and Disability.
Some people cannot take care of themselves. Worse, sometimes these same people have no one to help—no friends, no family. In those cases, they may need a court-appointed Public Guardian, or Conservator, to look out for their interests. Interested in volunteering?
