Dennis Gibson will be the guest speaker at the May presentation of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency’s Nature @ Noontime program. The program will be held from noon-1 p.m. on Thursday, May 3.
Gibson, who retired after 30 years of teaching biology and environmental science at Battle Ground Academy, will speak about the importance of essential contact with nature in childhood development. He endorses the book, Last Child in the Woods by Richard Louv, and is advocate for membership in the Tennessee coalition, Every Child Outdoors.
In addition to his teaching duties at BGA, he also was chairperson of the school’s Science Department. He has taught at Belmont University in the summers. For eight years, Gibson was the Curator of Education at the Nashville Children’s Museum for eight years which moved and later became The Cumberland Science Museum.
Hosted by the TWRA I&E Department and held on the first Thursday of each month, except July, Nature @ Noontime presentations are about natural resource related topics and last about 30-45, minutes, allowing time for discussion during the allotted lunch hour.
