The Division of Multimodal Transportation Resources includes Public Transportation, Rail and Waterways, Bicycle and Pedestrian Programs, Rail Inspection and Safety, and the Section 130 Rail-Highway Grade Crossing Program. The Division administers state and federal grant programs for public transportation. For rail and water transportation, the Division is responsible for inspecting railroads and rail crossings for safety and providing safety upgrades at key highway-rail crossings. The Division's Bicycle and Pedestrian Program provides coordination with TDOT resurfacing projects, awards the Multimodal Access Grants to local communities and serves as a liaison between TDOT and bicycle and pedestrian stakeholders.

Tennessee Transit: Today and Tomorrow

In 2016, TDOT Multimodal Transportation Resources Division conducted a statewide assessment of public transit service and needs. The results of the assessment, which include insight into current and future public transportation needs in the State of Tennessee, provide decision makers with critical information to understand future transit needs and to develop policies on how best to provide public transportation funding in the future.

A summary of the assessment is available in a four-page report titled Tennessee Transit: Today and Tomorrow. Click the link to view or download the report in Adobe PDF format.

TDOT is pleased to announce the first call for projects for the competitive capital grant program made possible by the IMPROVE Act. Transit providers that receive FTA 5307 or 5311 funds are invited to apply for up to $3 million in funding for transit capital projects that further TDOT’s three top priorities: safety, reduction of congestion, and economic development. Please find a link below for Commission Schroer’s program announcement, as well as the program fact sheet and program application. Applications are due November 17, 2017. Please contact Matthew Long, Transit Manager, at matthew.long@tn.gov or at 615-770-1039 with any questions.
