The Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth announced grant awards to organizations working to reduce juvenile delinquency and teen alcohol use for 2006-07. The Commission is the state advisory group for the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. The agency awards and monitors OJJDP Federal Formula Grants, Juvenile Accountability Block Grant funding, Title V Delinquency Prevention funding and Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws grants. The programs receiving funding connect children at risk for delinquency to supporting adults and equip them with the skills they need to make better choices. Services are designed for prevention and intervention.
“TCCY is glad to be able to fund quality programs that strengthen our families and communities despite reductions in federal funding,” said Debrah Stafford, director of TCCY’s juvenile justice division.
Juvenile Accountability Block Grant “Pass Through” funding is based on a federal allocation of dollars to local governments. All other funding is awarded following a competitive request for proposals and review of applications. The Commission makes concerted efforts to distribute funding across the state for maximum benefit.
The Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth is an independent agency created by the Tennessee General Assembly. Its primary mission is to advocate for improvements in the quality of life for Tennessee children and families.
