AN ACT providing for the placement of historical markers concerning African Americans throughout the State of Tennessee.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:

SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, the Tennessee Historical Commission is hereby directed to place at least sixteen (16) historical markers relating to the African American culture and history throughout the State of Tennessee. Such markers shall identify cultural or historical events having significance to the surrounding area or community where the marker is placed.

SECTION 2. The purpose for such markers is to acquaint citizens and visitors with the cultural and historical heritage of African Americans in Tennessee.

SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.
