AN ACT providing for the erection of a historical plaque at the former site of Camp Blount in Lincoln County.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:

SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, the Tennessee Historical Commission is hereby directed to erect a plaque of appropriate size and design to serve as a monument at the site where Camp Blount was formerly located in Lincoln County.

SECTION 2. The purpose for erecting such plaque shall be to recognize and commemorate the cultural and historical significance of Camp Blount, which was the rendezvous point for the Creek Indian War Campaign and the Battle of New Orleans whose respective participants included Andrew Jackson, Sam Houston and David Crockett.

SECTION 3. The provisions of this act shall not become operative unless specific funding for the implementation of this act is provided for in the General Appropriations Act for 1997-1998.

SECTION 4. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.
