AN ACT To designate a certain bridge on State Route 61-62 in Oliver Springs as the "Charles Deadrick 'Pete' Johnson Memorial Bridge".

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:

WHEREAS, From time to time, this General Assembly has seen fit to name certain public highways and bridges in honor of those noteworthy Tennesseans who have given unreservedly of themselves for the betterment of their communities; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Charles Deadrick "Pete" Johnson was one such person, a highly respected former alderman and mayor of Oliver Springs, whose contributions to the town he so dearly loved stand as a testament to the wisdom and character of this great man; and

WHEREAS, Born and raised in the Oliver Springs area, Mr. Johnson served with probity as an alderman on the town council from 1973 to 1975 and as mayor from 1975 to 1977; and

WHEREAS, "Pete" Johnson's record of proficient service to Oliver Springs included his diligent efforts to secure funding and approval for the State Highway 61-62 Bypass around the town; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson represented the people of Oliver Springs with great energy, conscientiously working to ensure they were given the best representation at all levels of government; and

WHEREAS, As a means of recognizing this inimitable man for his astute service to Oliver Springs and the citizenry of Tennessee, this legislative body deems it appropriate to establish a lasting tribute in his name; now, therefore,

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:

SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, the easternmost bridge on State Route 61-62 in Oliver Springs, otherwise known as Tri-County Boulevard, is hereby designated as the "Charles Deadrick 'Pete' Johnson Memorial Bridge" to honor the memory of this extraordinary man who most assuredly was a worthy representative of the true spirit of Tennessee.

SECTION 2. The Department of Transportation is directed to erect suitable signs or to affix suitable markers designating such bridge as the "Charles Deadrick 'Pete' Johnson Memorial Bridge".

SECTION 3. The erection of such signs shall be within the guidelines prescribed by the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

SECTION 4. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.
