AN ACT To amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 55, relative to speed limits.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:

SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 55-8-152 (d), is amended by deleting the first and second sentences of the subsection and by substituting instead the following:

On all highways of the interstate and defense highway system of this state, it is unlawful for any person to operate or drive a motor vehicle at a rate of speed in excess of seventy miles per hour (70 mph). On all highways of the interstate and defense highway system of this state, it is unlawful for any person to operate or drive a truck at a rate of speed in excess of seventy miles per hour (70 mph).

On all four-lane controlled-access highways which are federal or state routes of this state, it is unlawful for any person to operate or drive a motor vehicle at a rate of speed in excess of sixty-five miles per hour (65 mph). On all four-lane controlled-access highways which are federal or state routes of this state, it is unlawful for any person to operate or drive a truck at a rate of speed in excess of sixty-five miles per hour (65 mph).

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect on becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.
