AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 63, Chapter 12, relative to the composition of the Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:

SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 63-12-104, is amended by deleting subsection (b) in its entirety and by substituting instead the following:

(b) The board shall be composed of five (5) licensed doctors of veterinary medicine, who shall be graduates of an approved school of veterinary medicine and of good standing in their profession, and who have had not less than five (5) years' actual experience in the practice of veterinary medicine; one (1) licensed animal technician who shall be a graduate of an approved veterinary technology program, is of good standing in the profession, and who has had not less than five (5) years' actual experience as a licensed animal technician; and one (1) member of general public as provided by Section 63-1-124.

SECTION 2. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 63-12-104, is amended by deleting subsection (e) in its entirety and by substituting instead the following:

(e) The Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association may recommend licensed doctors of veterinary medicine and licensed animal technicians for appointment to the board, and the Governor, in the Governor's discretion, may follow such recommendations.

SECTION 3. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 63-12-105, is amended in subsection (b) by deleting the language "Three (3)" and by substituting instead the language "Four (4)".

SECTION 4. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 63-12-107, is amended in subsection (b) by deleting the language "Three (3)" and by substituting instead the language "Four (4)".

SECTION 5. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.
