Nashville, Tennessee --- Governor Phil Bredesen, State Senator Paul Stanley, State Representative Jim Cobb, Department of Safety Commissioner David Mitchell and Colonel Mike Walker, Commander of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, will deliver brief remarks Tuesday, May 15, at 9:30am during “Trooper Recognition Day” on the West Steps of the State Capitol.
The General Assembly passed House Joint Resolution 263 by Representative Jim Cobb to designate May 15, 2007, and every Tuesday of the week in which May 15 falls thereafter, as “State Trooper Recognition Day on the Hill.”
The Tennessee Department of Safety's mission is (www.tn.gov/safety) to ensure the safety and general welfare of the public. The department encompasses the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Office of Homeland Security and Driver License Services. General areas of responsibility include law enforcement, safety education, motorist services and terrorism prevention.
