Arrest Warrant Issued For State Senator

Nashville, Tennessee --- The Department of Safety has obtained a warrant in Rutherford County, charging State Senator Jerry W. Cooper of Morrison with driving under the influence and speeding.

These charges are the result of an investigation into an automobile crash involving Senator Cooper which occurred on I-24 on February 7th, 2007.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol deployed to the scene the Critical Incident Response Team to conduct a thorough investigation of the crash. C.I.R.T. was assisted by Safety’s Criminal Investigation Division.

This investigation is ongoing and a complete investigative report will be provided to District Attorney General William Whitesell of Rutherford County, who is handling the case.

Senator Cooper’s attorney has been advised by District Attorney Whitesell of the charges. Mr. Cooper will surrender and will be served with the warrant when he is physically able.
