Department of Safety to Hold Five Media Events to Educate Drivers About Move Over Law Changes

Nashville, Tennessee --- The Tennessee Department of Safety, along with the Department of Transportation, Governor's Highway Safety Office, Tennessee Trucking Association, and local law enforcement, fire and emergency agencies from across the state will hold media events in the Tri-Cities, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Nashville and Memphis on Friday, July 7 to educate drivers about recent changes to the state's Move Over Law.

Colonel Mike Walker will travel to the Tri-Cities for the media event at the I-81 Southbound Welcome Center at 8:30 a.m. EDT.

Tennessee 's Move Over law requires drivers approaching a stopped highway responder of any kind to move over to another traffic lane. If traffic conditions make moving over impossible, the law requires drivers to slow down.

Each event will highlight recent changes to the penalties associated with violating the Move Over Law and the experiences of those who work our roadsides each day.

The Tri-Cities event will be held Friday, July 7 at 8:30 a.m. EDT at the I-81 Southbound Welcome Center.

The department encompasses the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Office of Homeland Security and Driver License Services. General areas of responsibility include law enforcement, safety education, motorist services and terrorism prevention.
