Sobriety Checkpoint

Nashville, Tennessee --- The Tennessee Highway Patrol, in cooperation with the Murfreesboro Police Department, the Smyrna Police Department, the LaVergne Police Department and the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office, will conduct sobriety checkpoints and other highway safety blitz activities in Rutherford County on Friday, June 17th. The effort is part of the 100 Days of Summer Heat and Stay Alive in '05 campaigns.

The schedule of activities for this event is as follows:

  • 3:00pm CDT:
    Pre-blitz briefing (media may attend)
    Murfreesboro Driver License Testing Station
    1035 East Samsonite Boulevard
    Murfreesboro
  • 9:00pm-10:00pm CDT:
    One hour driver license checkpoint
    Old Nashville Highway north of SR 840, south of Jefferson Pike at the Walter Hill Dam
  • 1:30am-2:30am CDT : US 41/70 at SR 840

Enforcement for the 100 Days of Summer Heat and Stay Alive in '05 campaigns is funded through grants from the Governor's Highway Safety Office.

The Tennessee Department of Safety's mission is (www.tn.gov/safety) to ensure the safety and general welfare of the public. The department encompasses the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Office of Homeland Security and Driver License Services. General areas of responsibility include law enforcement, safety education, motorist services and terrorism prevention.
