102-Hour Holiday Period
In Tennessee, there were 17 fatal crashes resulting in 23 deaths, yielding a fatality rate of one death per four hours and 24 minutes.
13 (57%) of the fatalities occurred in alcohol-related accidents.
18 of the fatalities were vehicle occupants.
Two motorcyclists were killed; both were wearing a helmet.
One pedestrian was killed.

During the 78-hour 1970-71 New Year's holiday period, 19 people were killed in Tennessee traffic crashes yielding a fatality rate of one death per 4.1 hours.
During the 78-hour 1982-83 New Year's holiday period, 8 people were killed in Tennessee traffic crashes yielding a fatality rate of one death per 9.8 hours.
The 2004-2005 New Year's holiday period will begin 6 p.m. Friday, December 31, 2004 and continue until midnight Sunday, January 2, 2005. This will be a 54-hour holiday period.

The department encompasses the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Office of Homeland Security and Driver License Services. General areas of responsibility include law enforcement, safety education, motorist services and terrorism prevention.
