In Tennessee, there were three fatal crashes resulting in three deaths, yielding a fatality rate of one death per 18 hours.

  • Two crashes were single vehicle crashes
  • One was a multiple vehicle crashes.

None of the fatalities occurred in alcohol-related accidents.

All three fatalities were vehicle occupants.

  • None of the three (100%) was wearing safety restraints.
  • None of the three was ejected from their vehicle.
  • No child passenger requiring child restraint devices was killed.

HIGHEST DEATHS

In 1969, 22 people were killed in Tennessee traffic crashes during the 30-hour Christmas holiday period, yielding a fatality rate of one death per 1.4 hours.

LOWEST DEATHS

In 1963, one person was killed in Tennessee traffic crashes during the 30-hour Christmas holiday period, yielding a fatality rate of one death per 30 hours.

The 2005 Christmas holiday period will begin 6 p.m. Friday, December 23 and continue until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, December 26. This will be a 78-hour holiday period.

The department encompasses the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Office of Homeland Security and Driver License Services. General areas of responsibility include law enforcement, safety education, motorist services and terrorism prevention.
