• Agencies Partner to Assist Motorists During I-40 Rock Slide

    Motorists Detoured to Alternate Routes for Several Months
     
    NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Department of Transportation and Tennessee Highway Patrol are working together to keep motorists informed about the closure of Interstate 40 near the North Carolina state line. In Tennessee, I-40 is closed in both directions at mile marker 451 (Waterville) due to a massive rock slide that buried the interstate at mile marker 2.6 in North Carolina just after 2 a.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2009. The North Carolina Department of Transportation has made an emergency declaration and is working aggressively to remove the rock from the roadway however it will be several months before the interstate is reopened. As a result, motorists are being detoured to I-81 and I-26.

  • I-40 Reduced to One Lane in Fayette County This Weekend for Bridge Repairs

    NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will reduce Interstate 40 East and West in Fayette County to one lane this weekend as work to repair five bridges continues. I-40 between mile marker 33 and 34 will be reduced to one lane in both directions from Friday, October 30, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. until Monday, November 2 at 6:00 a.m.

    DAVIDSON COUNTY, I-40 and Robertson Road Interchange:(Recovery Act Project)
    *       Thursday October 29 and Friday October 30, 8PM-6AM, On the I-40 Westbound on-ramp at White Bridge flagging of traffic will occur to allow placement of barrier rail.
    *       Monday November 2 through Wednesday November 4, 10AM and 1PM, each day, Rolling roadblocks for I-40 East bound and Westbound traffic for blasting operations on the north side of I-40 in the White Bridge Road area. Traffic will also be stopped on Robertson Rd., Urbandale Ave., and White Bridge Rd.

    Sullivan County, SR 1 (US 11W) Intersection with SR 394 and Hines Road (Intersection Modification): The new traffic signals have been on flash cycle and will be activated to control traffic this week. Also this area will have a permanently reduced speed limit of 45 mph. Motorists are asked to use caution in this area.

    *       Thursday October 22 or Friday October 23, 8AM-3PM, On the I-40 Westbound on-ramp at White Bridge flagging of traffic will occur to allow removal of barrier rail and to tie temporary ramp in to interstate pavement. Minimum closure time will be 15 minutes.
    *       Friday October 23, 8PM-12 Noon Saturday October 24,The right lane of I-40 westbound will be closed to tie in the temporary ramp westbound at White Bridge Rd. Two lanes will remain open.

    To minimize inconvenience to motorists traveling to the University of Tennessee football game in alabama there will be no temporary closures on I-75 southbound and I-24 eastbound (I-24 westbound in Hamilton County) in Region Two for the period beginning Friday, October 23 at 6:00 AM and ending Saturday, October 24 at 3:30 PM 
     
    To aid motorists returning from the game, there will be no temporary closures on I-75 northbound and I-24 westbound (I-24 eastbound in Hamilton County) in Region Two beginning Saturday, October 24 at 3:30 PM and ending Sunday, October 25 at 10:00 PM
     
    BLEDSOE COUNTY, SR-30 resurfacing from west of Cranwell Road (LM 5.57) to US-127 (SR-28, LM 10.34); SR-443 resurfacing from Ogden Rd. (90o turn, LM 3.93) to Rhea County Line (LM 5.31): (Recovery Act Project) The contractor will be performing resurfacing activity. Estimated completion date is November 2009.

    Sullivan County, SR 126 between SR 75 and Franklin Drive (Small Drainage Structures): The contractor is working on placing fill material to build the temporary run-around. Once this is complete then the contractor will place asphalt in order to shift traffic. This will enable the contractor to replace the drainage structures. Motorists need to alert to equipment and later the traffic shift.
