Cumberland County, I-40 West near MM 326, construction of a truck climbing lane, including grading, drainage, construction of retaining walls and paving:  Work on this project continues.  Construction signs have been installed on I-40 westbound.  The right shoulder will be closed for the duration of the project.  Grade work activities are in progress and the contractor continues construction of retaining wall 2.  Temporary closures will only be allowed from 7PM to 6AM Sundays through Thursdays.  A minimum of one lane must be maintained at all times.  No lane closures will be allowed during special events, holidays or holiday weekends in accordance with the plans and specifications.  Estimated project completion date is June 2018.  [Rogers Group, Inc./Bradley/CNQ329]

Cumberland County, SR-101 (Peavine Road) grading, drainage, and paving from Firetower Road to Westchester/Catoosa Boulevard:  Work on this project continues.  Construction signs have been installed.  The contractor will be installing and maintaining erosion control measures.  Storm drain installation, box culvert construction, utility relocation, and grade work activities are in progress.  Temporary lane closures and traffic stoppages will be needed to set portable barrier rail and other gradework activities.  Motorists should be alert for construction personnel and equipment along SR-101 Peavine Road.  Estimated project completion date is November 2020.  [Rogers Group. Cumberland County, SR-101 (Peavine Road) utility relocation from Firetower Road to east of Westchester Drive/Catoosa Boulevard:  The new transmission lines have been energized.  The contractor will be removing the existing steel poles along SR-101 Peavine Road.  Temporary traffic stoppages may be needed and motorists should be alert for construction personnel and equipment entering and existing Peavine Road.  Estimated project completion date is November 2017.  [Davis H. DeKalb County, South College Street bridge repair over U.S. 70 (SR-26) (LM 0.36) in Smithville:  Work on this project continues. The contractor recently poured the exterior beams and addressed repairs to the existing sidewalk on College Street. The contractor will be placing the membrane seal on the existing deck, completing epoxy injections for the sidewalk and replacing the steel channels on the exterior beam during this period. There will be lane closures on U.S. 70 in each direction below the bridge to allow the contractor to safely work.  One lane in each direction will be maintained during this time.  Motorists should be alert for construction personnel and equipment.  Estimated project completion date is November 2017.  [Mid-State Construction Co., Inc./Sorrelle/CNR934]

DEKALB COUNTY, the resurfacing (microsurface or thin mix overly) on U.S. 70 (S.R. 26) from east of S.R. 96 (L.M. 6.10) to Dowell Town City Limits (L.M. 10.88) and on S.R. 96 from the Wilson County Line (L.M. 0.00) to Center Hill Dam (L.M. 12.66):   Final Inspection is complete and the contractor will begin addressing punchlist items during this period.  Estimated project completion date is November 2017.  [Superior Traffic Control, Inc./Sorrelle/CNR930]

DEKALB AND WILSON COUNTIES, miscellaneous safety improvements on U.S. 70 (S.R. 26) from west of the Dekalb County Line (L.M. 20.16) in Wilson County to near S.R. 96 (L.M. 6.10) in Dekalb County:   The contractor is working to complete the guardrail installation at Goose Creek. The contractor will have a temporary lane closures to complete this work. Flaggers will assist with traffic control as necessary during these temporary closures. Franklin county, SR-476 bridge repair over the Elk River (L.M. 3.39) and Hurricane Creek (L.M. 7.40):  Work on this project continues. Franklin county, SR-127 the construction of a concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridge over the Elk River (L.M. 6.21), including grading, drainage and paving:  Work on this project continues.  The bridge will be reduced to one 10.5’ lane and controlled with a temporary traffic signal until further notice.  Estimated project completion date is October 2018.  [Simpson Construction Co., Inc./Parnham/CNR044]

Grundy County, SR-56 bridge repair over Pepper Hollow Branch (LM 31.24):  Work on this project has begun.  The contractor will be performing bridge repairs on SR-56 over the Pepper Hollow Branch waterway.  The initial construction will be in the southbound lane.  During these repairs the southbound lane will be closed and a temporary traffic light system will control traffic over the single northbound lane that will be open to traffic.  An additional traffic light will control traffic from Teeters Lane at the north end of the project.  Once repairs are completed on the southbound lane the lane closure will switch over to the northbound lane and the traffic light system will control the traffic in the single southbound lane.  Estimated project completion date is April 2018.  [Jamison Construction, LLC/Voiles/CNQ345]

HAMILTON COUNTY, I-24 East bridge repair over Chestnut Street at mile marker 178.6 near the U.S. 27 interchange and safety improvements on the bridges over the CSX Railroad and over U.S. 27:  Work on this project is completed pending final inspection.  Estimated project completion date is November 2017.  [Dement Construction Co., LLC/Pruett/CNR031]

HAMILTON COUNTY, U.S. 27 (I-124) widening from I-24/U.S. 27 interchange to north of the Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River, including widening the Olgiati Bridge:  Work on this project continues.  The speed limit on U.S. 27 in the construction zone is 45 MPH.  Weather permitting, the contractor may implement temporary lane/shoulder closures on weeknights between the hours of 7PM and 6AM.  On Thursday night, November 9, 2017 between 7PM and 6AM, a temporary left lane closure will be in place for northbound U.S. 27 from I-24 to north of 12th St. for setting the Main St. bridge beams.  During this work, Main St. will also be temporarily closed from Reggie White Blvd. / Carter St. to the southbound U.S. 27 on-ramp.  Traffic will be detoured using Reggie White Blvd. and West 20th St. / Riverfront Pkwy.  Also on Thursday night, November 9, 2017 between 7PM and 6AM, a temporary ramp closure will be in place for southbound U.S. 27 to the eastbound MLK Blvd. ramp for setting temporary barrier rail and an attenuator on the ramp.  During this closure all MLK Blvd. traffic will have to use the ramp to westbound MLK Blvd.

On Monday night, November 13, 2017 through Wednesday night, November 15, 2017 between the hours of 8PM and 6AM, the contractor will implement a nightly road closure on MLK Blvd. under the U.S. 27 overpass bridge for setting the bridge beams.  There will also be a temporary left lane closure of U.S. 27 northbound from I-24 to north of 6th St. for setting the bridge beams over MLK Blvd.

During this time, the contractor will also be temporarily closing the following ramps:

  • Westbound MLK on-ramp to U.S. 27 southbound (Traffic will be detoured to the eastbound MLK on-ramp to access U.S. 27 South via Chestnut St. – 6th St. – Gateway Ave.)
  • Eastbound MLK on-ramp to U.S. 27 North (Traffic will be detoured to the westbound MLK on‑ramp to access U.S. 27 North via Gateway Ave. – 6th St. – Chestnut St.)
  • Southbound U.S. 27 exit ramp to eastbound MLK Blvd. (Traffic will be detoured to the westbound MLK exit ramp via U.S. 27 South exit to westbound MLK Blvd. – Gateway Ave. – 6th St. – Chestnut St.)

Hamilton County, SR-320 (East Brainerd Road) grading, drainage, installation of signals, construction of seven retaining walls and paving from east of Graysville Road to east of Bel-Air Road:  Work on this project continuesDuring this report period, the contractor may have intermittent lane closures between 9AM-2PM.  This work may affect either direction of East Brainerd Road or side streets from Graysville Road to Bel-Air Road.  On Friday, November 10, 2017, the contractor will be performing a traffic shift on East Brainerd Road past Fuller Road.  The shift will put 1 eastbound and 1 westbound lane of traffic on the newly-paved section from Fuller Road to the end of project.  Banks Road traffic will access the new section by traveling West on the existing pavement and entering the new section of roadway at Everett Drive.  This shift will allow the contractor to commence work left of center from Fuller Road to end of project.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Estimated project completion date is June 2018. Hamilton County, SR-153/SR-319 (Hixson Pike) bridge repair on Hixson Pike over SR-153:  Work on this project continues.  The contractor will be working on the inside lanes of the bridge.  The outside lanes in both directions are open to traffic.  This lane closure will be in place until late November 2017.  During this report period the contractor may have intermittent lane closures on SR-153 from 9PM to 6AM to do work under the bridge.  If there are any temporary closures needed on SR-153 as part of this project, they will take place at nighttime on Sundays through Thursdays between 9PM and 6AM and on weekdays on SR-153 South between 9AM and 3PM and on SR-153 North between 7:30AM and 3PM.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as necessary during these temporary closures.  Estimated project completion date is May 2018. HAMILTON COUNTY, U.S. 11 (SR-2/Brainerd Rd.) resurfacing from McCallie Tunnel (LM 11.83) to east of Moore Rd. (LM 13.85):  Work on this project is complete pending final inspection.  Estimated project completion date is November 2017. [Talley Construction/Pruett/CNR218]

Hamilton County, the tunnel cleaning of the McCallie Tunnel on U.S. 11 (US 64, SR-2), the Stringers Ridge Tunnel on U.S. 127 (SR-8), and the Bachman Tubes on U.S. 41 (U.S. 76, SR-8):  The nighttime cleaning operation of McCallie Tunnels, Stringers Ridge Tunnel, and Bachman Tubes occurs between 8PM-6AM.  Tunnels will be closed during cleaning, and detours will be marked accordingly as each tunnel is cleaned.  Contract completion date is June 2018.  [ETI Environmental, Inc./Micka/CNR223]

Marion County, I-24 East resurfacing from the Grundy County Line (LM 0.00/MM 133) to east of the bridge over Cave Cove Creek (LM 6.36/MM141) in Monteagle:  Work on this project is complete pending final inspection and possible addressing of punchlist items.  Estimated project completion date is November 2017.  [Rogers Group, Inc./Parnham/CNQ381]

McMinn County, I-75 resurfacing from near mile marker 39 to the SR-30 bridge near mile marker 49:  Work on this project is nearing completion.  During this report period, the contractor may work on Friday and Saturday nights between 9PM and 9AM to install pavement markings.  THP will assist with traffic control.  Estimated project completion is November 2017.  [Rogers Group, Inc./Curtis/CNR201]

MCMINN COUNTY, SR-30, grading, drainage and paving on S.R. 30 from Jackson Street to east of Knight Road in Athens:  Work on this project has begun.  This project will upgrade SR-30 from a four-lane lane divided roadway to a five-lane urban-type roadway (two lanes in each direction with continuous center turn lane) and include curb, gutter and ADA-compliant sidewalks on both sides throughout the project area.  The contractor has implemented the first phase traffic shift.  The eastbound lanes are closed to traffic, and all traffic is using the existing westbound lanes, which have been marked and signed as a two-lane undivided highway from east of Jackson Street to east of Knight Road.  Crossovers to businesses are reduced, but all businesses remain accessible.  The first phase traffic shift is estimated to remain in effect through January 2019.  Estimated project completion date is October 2019.  [Talley Construction Company, Inc./Micka/CNR078.]

McMinn County, SR-30 grading, drainage and paving at the intersection of Denso Drive and Milton Road in Athens, including adding turn lanes and upgrading the traffic signals (LM 6.30 – LM 6.50):  Work on this project continues.  The contractor is working on installing the signal light this week and has both left turn lanes on SR-30 going onto Milton and Denso Drive closed.  These turn lanes will be opened up when the new signal lights have been installed.  The travelling public is advised to be careful at this intersection due to contractor’s worker who will be present.  There will be intermittent lane closures as they work on the signals.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control.  Estimated project completion is November 2017.  [Greenstar, LLC/Curtis/CNR037]

Overton County, SR-52 grading, drainage, signals and paving from near Oakley-Allons Road (LM 6.58) to DR-111 (LM 10.23):  Work on this project continues.  Tower Hill Road at the Allons Baptist Church on SR-52 has been closed until further notice.  The closure will allow the contractor to bring the road up to grade.  The detour for this closure is Elmer Langford Road.  The contractor may have short term lane closures on the project to perform various operations on as-needed basis.  Estimated project completion date is July 2018.  [J&M Grading Division, LLC/Hoskins/CNP114]

Overton County, SR-84 bridge repair over branch (LM 10.16):  Work on this project continues.  The bridge is reduced to one 10’ lane and controlled with a temporary traffic signal until further notice.  Estimated project completion date is November 2017.  [Jamison Construction, LLC/Hoskins/CNQ940]

Polk County, U.S. 64 (SR-40) construction of a concrete bulb-tee beam bridge over Branch and TOHA Old Line railroad (LM 24.85), including grading, drainage and paving:  Work on this project continues.  The contractor will be clearing and there will be occasional temporary lane closuresThere will be intermittent lane closures as the contractor will have trucks entering and exiting the highway.  The traveling public is advised to be cautious around flaggers and construction workers in the construction zone.  Estimated project completion date is May 2019.  [Talley Construction Co., Inc./Curtis/CNQ900]

Polk County, U.S. 64 (SR-40) rockfall mitigation near LM 8.30:  Work on this project continues.  The contractor will have intermittent lane closures to work on striping and installing new signs.  The traveling public is advised to be cautious around flaggers and construction workers in the construction zone.  Estimated project completion date is November 2017.  [Talley Construction Co., Inc./Curtis/CNQ900]

Putnam County, I-40 grading, drainage, construction of two concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridges, signals and paving at Mine Lick Creek Road (MM 283/LM 15.56) and construction of a State Industrial Access Road (Mine Lick Creek Road) serving Project Victor, including grading, drainage and paving:  Work on this project continues. The contractor has provided and maintains a temporary access to Old Stewart Cemetery Road from Bennett Road, signs are posted. The contractor is currently performing grading operations, removing the cut material, from proposed Lee Seminary Road 2 and the south portion of Bennett Road/Tennessee Avenue. This material is being placed on the RT side of the mainline fill material for Phase 2 on Bennett Road/Tennessee Avenue tying to the south portion of the bridge including the new alignment for Stewart Cemetery Road. The permanent traffic signals have been installed and the subcontractor is working to tie in the power supply for the new traffic signals. The concrete ramps, westbound are complete, the shoulder stone for the ramps is complete, guardrail on the westbound ramps is scheduled for next week. The contractor plans to begin milling and paving on I-40 the week of October 23rd, east and westbound tying to the on/off ramps in each direction. This will be followed by the permanent pavement markings for the on/off ramps, guardrail installation, scoring any permanent signage. The Phase 2 bridge pours for westbound were completed during the first week of October. The contractor will be working the next 2-3 weeks on the approach slabs for Phase 2 bridge and the concrete paving between the bridges. Motorists are advised to observe the posted speed limits when entering the work zone and be alert to construction personnel, equipment and vehicles. Putnam County, grading, drainage and paving on a State Industrial Access road serving Institutional Wholesale in Algood:  Work on this project continues.  Burton Branch will remain closed to thru traffic through the end of October to complete grading operations on Burton Branch Road, place base stone, shape ditches and install seeding/sod applications, complete driveway pours, side drains for resident driveways and business entrances, catch basin installation and place 2 layers of asphalt binder mix.  The contractor will be placing base stone and binder on the new transition during the month of November, and will pave the topping mix for all of Burton Branch under traffic between school hours.  Burton Branch will be open to traffic the month of November.  Message boards and signage will be installed on each end of Burton Branch notifying the public of the closure.  The contractor completed installation of the 42 inch pipe at Station 58+25. The contractor will continue undercutting to obtain sound material from Station 57+00 to near Station 64+00 and backfill with graded solid rock. Motorists are advised to observe the posted speeds when entering the work zone and be alert to construction personnel, equipment and vehicles. Flaggers will assist with traffic control during this time. No lane closures will be allowed during special events, holidays or holiday weekends in accordance with the plans and specifications. PUTNAM COUNTY, I-40 bridge repair of bridges over SR-24 between mile markers 300 and 301 in Monterey:  Work on this project continues. The contractor will have temporary lane closures on S.R. 24 during this period to complete rubbing and patching on spans 1 & 2 at Exit 300 and 301. The Final Inspection was completed on October 3rd, 2017. The contractor will be addressing punchlist items during this period. PUTNAM COUNTY, Old Baxter Road bridge repair over I-40 (L.M. 2.89):  Work on this project continues.  Motorists should use extreme caution and be alert to construction equipment and personnel as work is performed on I-40. PUTNAM COUNTY, SR-135 resurfacing from south of Jackson Street (LM 9.75) to north of SR-290 (LM 11.64):  Work on this project continues. Nightly lane closures will be performed Sunday night thru Thursday night from 7:00PM to 6:00AM.  THP will be on site to assist during this time.  No lane closures will be allowed during special events, holidays or holiday weekends in accordance with the plans and specifications. Putnam County, The resurfacing on S.R. 96 from south of the I-40 underpass (L.M. 1.34) to U.S. 70N (S.R. 24) (L.M. 0.04) excluding the section in Smith County: Work on this project continues. REGION 2 random on-call spray thermoplastic pavement marking on various interstate and state routes:  Work on this project continues. The contractor will be completing spray thermoplastic pavement markings in Franklin County on SR15 and Rhea County on SR29/US27 during this period. The contractor will begin Call-Out 1 in Hamilton County on SR2, SR8, I-75 at Exit 11 and SR321 beginning October 9th, 2017. This is a mobile operation to be performed during day and night operations. Low volume roads will be performed during day operations while high volume roads will be performed at night. All motorists should use caution and be alert to slow moving equipment while avoiding freshly painted pavement surfaces. Region 2, preventative and unscheduled maintenance of Chattanooga SmartWay Intelligent Transportation System:  The contractor may have short term shoulder and/or lane closures in order to perform preventative and unscheduled maintenance to the Chattanooga SmartWay intelligent transportation system.  Work hours are 9AM-3:30PM.  At least one travel lane will remain open to traffic at all times.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.  Contract completion date is October 2019.  [NABCO Electric Company, Inc./Pruett/CNQ287]

Region 2-on-call sweeping and drain cleaning on various interstates and state routes:  The contractor will have short term shoulder and/or lane closures at various locations in Region 2 at nighttime or during non-peak daytime hours in order to sweep and clean drains.  Contract completion date is February 2018.  [Blevins Enterprises, Inc./Micka/CNQ328]

Rhea County, SR-302 bridge repair over Clear Creek (LM 2.57):  Work on this project continues.  Construction signs and traffic control measures are in place.  The bridge is currently reduced to one 10’ wide travel lane to allow the contractor to safely repair the bridge.  While the bridge is down to one lane, traffic will be maintained and controlled by a temporary signal for the safety of the traveling public.  Motorists should expect periodic delays and use caution in the work zone.  Estimated project completion date is November 2017.  [Jamison Construction, LLC/Micka/CNQ104]

Rhea County, U.S. 27 (SR-29) grading, drainage and paving at the intersection of SR-378 in Dayton (LM 6.53 – LM 6.80):  Work on this project is nearing completion.  The intersection is open to traffic and the new traffic signals are operational.  Any more lane closures, if necessary, will be temporary.  Estimated project completion date is November 2017.  [Talley Construction Co., Inc./Micka/CNR060]

RHEA County, SR-68 resurfacing from U.S. 27 (LM 8.33) to near Meigs County line (LM 15.16):  Work on this project has begun.  There will be temporary lane closures between 7AM and 7:30PM.  Flaggers will assist with traffic control.  Motorists should be alert for construction personnel and equipment.  Estimated project completion date is November 2017.  [Rogers Group, Inc./Micka/CNR205]

Van Buren and White Counties, miscellaneous safety improvements on various local roads in Van Buren County; miscellaneous safety improvements including high friction surface course on various local roads in White County:  Work on this project is complete.  The contractor is working to complete the punchlist at this time. Warren County, SR-288 construction of a concrete Bulb-Tee beam bridge over Collins River (LM 4.97), including grading, drainage and paving:  Work on this project continues.  Work on Abutment #1 Wingwall (Phase I) is complete. Drilled Shaft 1 on Pier #2 is complete.  CSL Sonic Logging Testing on Pier #2 Shaft 1 will be performed in mid- to late-October.  The bridge is currently reduced to one 12-ft. lane to allow the contractor to construct the new bridge.  While the bridge is down to one lane, traffic will be maintained and controlled by a temporary signal for the safety of the traveling public.  Motorists should expect periodic delays and use caution in the work zone. TDOT Operations/Maintenance Work and TDOT Bridge Inspections (TDOT Forces)

Region 2-Mowing and Brush Removal:  There will be possible short-term lane and shoulder closures at various locations in Region 2 in order to perform contract mowing and brush removal on an as-needed basis.  In addition to performing the work, regional Operations crews will also provide traffic control.  [TDOT Operations - Maintenance]

Region 2-Drainage Work:  There will be possible short-term lane and shoulder closures at various locations in Region 2 in order to clean rock and debris from ditches on an as-needed basis.  One lane will be maintained at all times.  [TDOT Operations - Maintenance]

Region 2-Pothole Repair and Pavement Patching:  There will be possible short-term emergency lane closures at various locations in Region 2 in order to repair potholes and patch pavement on an as-needed basis.  Depending on location and severity these repairs may be done during the day or at night.  In addition to performing the work, regional Operations crews will also provide traffic control.  [TDOT Operations - Maintenance]

Hamilton County, I-75 North Exit 1 interchange reconfiguration project at mile marker 1:  Work on this project continues.  During this report period, one lane of Ringgold Road in each direction will be closed from 9AM-3PM from St. Thomas St. to Mack Smith Road.  On Saturday, November 11, 2017 the contractor will shift the current I-75 N off-ramp traffic pattern.  THP and GSP will assist with traffic control.  The project will result in a reconfiguration of the exit ramps and will combine both northbound exits (1A & 1B) into one, which will allow drivers to turn both east and west on Ringgold Road at a signalized intersection.  Phase One, which will combine both exit ramps and access to Jordan Crossing and Camp Jordan Park, as well as an altered northbound entrance ramp to I-75, is slated for a preliminary opening of November 30, 2017.  Estimated project completion for the entire project is May 2018.  [C.W.
