What is Disability? An International Call for Postcards

The VSA arts Collaborative Art Project is asking people from around the world to send in a postcard documenting their interpretation of disability by creating a visual representation of individual experiences, impressions and perceptions about the word disability. The deadline for receipt of postcards is February 5, 2010. More information and a postcard template can be found at www.vsarts.org/.

Volunteers will assist staff with organizational duties and the preparation of distribution materials, including organization of QPR pre-test and post-test forms by trainer and region; affixing TSPN stickers to 3,000 National Suicide Prevention Lifeline posters; and taking inventory of in-house TSPN materials and office supplies. Lunch is provided, so an RSVP is required no later than 4:00 p.m., February 18 to tspn@org.

“What Works in Therapy – 40 Years of Outcome Research”

The two-day conference features Scott Miller, Ph.D., who is a co-founder of the Institute for the Study of Therapeutic Change, a private group of clinicians and researchers dedicated to studying “what works” in mental health and substance abuse treatment. Miller will present research results that are helping practitioners move toward better patient outcomes, as well as information about collecting and using your own outcome data with clients. An AAMFT approved supervisor refresher course will be offered on October 25. More information on delegate registration and times TBA as soon as it becomes available. CEs will be offered.

The winning artist will be notified by April 2, 2010. All artwork submitted will be displayed in the Exhibit Area June 3-4, 2010 during the MegaConference at the Nashville Airport Marriott. The deadline for entry is March 19, 2010. High quality digital images (300 dpi) of your artwork must accompany the entry form and be emailed to Lori Israel: lisrael@thearctn.org or call Lori at 615-248-5878 or 800-835-7077, ext 22.
A picture of the winning artwork, a short bio and picture of the artist will be featured on the 2010 Program Booklet cover and on the Tennessee Disability MegaConference website at http://www.tndisabilitymegaconference.org. The winning artist will also receive a complimentary exhibit table.
