What is a weekly certification?
As a claimant for unemployment insurance, you must complete weekly certifications beginning the week after you file your claim for benefits. The weekly certification is a set of eligibility questions. When answered correctly benefits are paid, provided the claim has been approved.
To certify you must establish a Personal Identification Number (PIN)
If you filed your claim online, you will establish a PIN at the end of the filing process. If you filed your claim by telephone, you will set up a PIN the first time you make your weekly certification.
Note: When certifying by telephone for the first time, the voice prompt will ask you to enter your PIN. At this point you will create a PIN that is easy to remember. You will not be able to certify or receive benefits without this PIN.
There are two ways to certify
You can certify either through the Internet at https://ui.tn.gov/
(click on “Weekly Certification” in the menu) or by calling (615)532-1800
(toll-free in TN), or 800-262-8094
(outside TN). You must certify each week while you are unemployed, starting with the week after you file your claim for benefits.

Read these questions before you certify the first time
Become familiar with the questions listed in step #7 in the “Guide for Receiving U.I. Benefits
,” as they are the questions you will answer each week during certification.
Question #3 asks your hourly rate of pay and number of hours worked. This refers to a new job you may have taken in the past week, not the job from which you were separated.
If you give a disqualifying answer
Answer questions carefully, as a mistake can stop your benefits. If you are told you have given a disqualifying answer to a question and you are still unemployed, you must call the UI Claims Center at 877-813-0950 to resolve the issue.
How do I stop my benefits?
You need to stop certifying when you begin earning wages - not when you receive your first paycheck. This will stop your benefits.
