NASHVILLE - Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner James Neeley recently presented Teksid Aluminum Foundry of Dickson the Commissioner's Award of Excellence for Workplace Safety and Health. Neeley presented the award on July 28, 2004, at the 27th annual Tennessee Safety and Health Congress and Exposition held at the Opryland Convention Center in Nashville.

"This award represents an enormous accomplishment in workplace safety for Teksid Aluminum," said Neeley. "Employees have shown careful attention to safety and health concerns, as the award requirements are challenging."

The Commissioner's Award of Excellence for Workplace Safety and Health is given to Tennessee employers whose employees work a certain number of hours without having an injury resulting in days away from work. The number of hours required is based on the size of the company. Teksid Aluminum has worked more than one million man hours without a lost-time injury.

Teksid Aluminum Foundry in Dickson, which is the only foundry in the state to have received the award, produces aluminum semi-permanent mold cylinder heads for the automotive industry. The company employs 510.
