TOSHA SEMINARS OFFERED STATEWIDE

NASHVILLE – Commissioner Michael Magill today announced that the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development is sponsoring a statewide series of seminars beginning this month. Individual Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration (TOSHA) seminars include such topics as an Update for Health Care Workers, Basic Safety, Maintenance Related TOSHA Standards, and What to Expect on a TOSHA Inspection.

"These practical, information-packed seminars are designed to help employers reduce risks to workers while maintaining TOSHA compliance and cutting workers’ compensation costs," explained Commissioner Magill. "Our philosophy is to use compliance as an opportunity to focus on solutions to safety problems, that in the long run will reduce costs and liability to the employer. Our commitment is to partner with business to make Tennessee a safer place to work."

Co-sponsored by the University of Tennessee and the Tennessee Association of Business, the seminars are an excellent opportunity to learn about recently passed Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations and standards.

According to Magill, employers appreciate the interest on the part of compliance officers and consultants to improve TOSHA compliance through education. While enforcement is obviously a necessary part, we feel workplaces in Tennessee have been made safer because of these seminars and workshops.
