BREDESEN PROCLAIMS HIRE VETS FIRST WEEK
State Emphasizes Benefits of Hiring Veterans
- Governor Phil Bredesen has proclaimed November 8-12 Hire Vets First Week in Tennessee, it was announced today by the Veterans Services Division of the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
Hire Vets First Week is an effort started by the U.S. Department of Labor to raise employer awareness of the training and skills that veterans possess at all ranks and occupational specialties and of the ways to hire them.
"The Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development provides services to more than 31,000 veterans," said Commissioner James Neeley. "These men and women who have bravely served our country will serve Tennessee employers in the same way. When you hire a veteran, you get experience, good work skills, and a disciplined employee who has been a responsible military employee."
Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development veterans' representatives are available across the state at the Tennessee Career Centers. All U.S. military veterans are eligible for job referral and recommendation to training programs through the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development offices (TDLWD). Our local veterans' staff specializes in matching employer needs with veterans making the transition from military to civilian work. This one-on-one approach helps ensure a better job match for the employer.
