TENNESSEE CAREER CENTER BLOUNT COUNTY GRAND
OPENING

Nashville-The Tennessee Department
of Labor and Workforce Development and East Tennessee Human Resource
Agency celebrated the opening of the Tennessee Career Center Blount
County today. The center is located at 366 Glascock St. in Alcoa (across
from Midland Shopping Center).
The Tennessee
Career Centers offer a convenient location for job seekers to go to
receive a variety of employment and training services. The center in
Blount County also offers GED classes, basic computer skills classes,
job search related workshops and more. Services are also available to
local employers to list job leads; access on-the-job training; get
assistance during a layoff or closure and more, made available through
the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD).
"In the past,
employment efforts have been too scattered and have too often left out
the employer's needs. The network of more than 100 Tennessee Career
Centers across the state is changing that and provides one central place
to meet employment needs. We are proud the Blount County office and
partners have come together to make things easier for both employers and
job seekers," said TDLWD Commissioner James Neeley.
According to
ETHRA Program Administrator Deb Miller, "The opening of the Tennessee
Career Center in Blount County is the culmination of a five-year effort
to locate Career Centers in each of the nine counties in Local Workforce
Investment Area 4 (LWIA 4)." LWIA 4 covers the counties of Anderson,
Blount, Campbell, Cumberland, Loudon, Monroe, Morgan, Roane and Scott.
Gordon Acuff,
ETHRA executive director, commented, "These Career Centers have been
made possible because of a strong partnership between our local County
Mayors, our LWIA 4 Workforce Investment Board, East Tennessee Human
Resource Agency and the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce
Development. Because of this effort, the job seekers
and employers in our area are provided quality services in a central
location."
