PERFORMANCE PIPE RECEIVES GOVERNOR’S AWARD OF EXCELLENCE
COMPANY RECEIVES AWARD FOR FIFTH STRAIGHT YEAR

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner James Neeley announced that Performance Pipe in Knoxville was chosen to receive the Governor’s Award of Excellence for Workplace Safety. The award was given today at the 31st Annual Tennessee Safety and Health Congress held at the Gaylord Opryland in Nashville.

"I am proud to present Performance Pipe with their fifth consecutive award," said Commissioner Neeley, who presented the Governor’s Award of Excellence to the company today. “The evaluation criteria for this award are challenging, and this company has worked extremely hard to meet and exceed the standards the award requires.”

The Governor’s Award honors Tennessee employers and employees who meet a required number of hours without workplace injuries serious enough to cause an employee to miss a day of work or restrict normal job activities. The number of hours required is based on the size of the company.

Performance Pipe employs 84 people in Knoxville. The facility qualified for the Commissioner’s Award by working more than 830,000 man hours without either a lost time or restricted duty incident, going back to 2003. Performance Pipe is the only facility that has qualified for the Governor’s award for five consecutive years, and in addition, the company is one of the state’s Volunteer STAR (Safety Through Accountability and Recognition) sites, which is the highest honor for workplace safety and health.
