GEORGIA-PACIFIC CORRUGATED RECEIVES GOVERNOR’S AWARD OF EXCELLENCE
MORE THAN 300,000 MAN HOURS WORKED WITHOUT A LOST TIME INJURY

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner James Neeley announced that Georgia-Pacific Corrugated in Cleveland was chosen to receive the Governor’s Award of Excellence for Workplace Safety. The award was given today at the 31st Annual Tennessee Safety and Health Congress held at the Gaylord Opryland in Nashville.

"Georgia-Pacific has shown a strong commitment to workplace safety and health by meeting the challenging criteria for this award," said Commissioner Neeley, who presented the Governor’s Award of Excellence to the company today.

The Governor’s Award honors Tennessee employers and employees who meet a required number of hours without workplace injuries serious enough to cause an employee to miss a day of work or restrict normal job activities. The number of hours required is based on the size of the company.

Georgia-Pacific employs about 140 people in Cleveland where they manufacture corrugated and solid fiber boxes. They have worked since January 2007 (over 300,000 man hours) without a lost time or restricted duty incident.

“We are very honored with this recognition of our employees’ efforts to work safely,” said Georgia-Pacific general manager Rob Belanger.  “Ultimately, we want to eliminate all workplace injuries in our facility, and we believe we are well on our way to the changes in our safety culture that will allow us to achieve that goal.”
