NYRSTAR CLARKSVILLE RECEIVES GOVERNOR’S SAFETY AWARD
safety record dates back to 2004
NASHVILLE - Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner James Neeley announced that Nyrstar Clarksville was chosen to receive the Governor’s Award of Excellence for Workplace Safety.
“Nyrstar’s excellent safety record shows the company is strongly committed to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace,” said John Winkler, Administrator for the Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration, who presented the Governor’s Award of Excellence today at the company’s facility in Clarksville. “The company achieved a remarkable safety record in order to meet the evaluation standards this award requires. Nyrstar Clarksville is the first smelting operation to receive this award.”
The Governor’s Award honors Tennessee employers and employees who meet a required number of hours during a calendar year without workplace injuries serious enough to cause an employee to miss a day of work or restrict normal job activities. The number of hours required is based on the size of the company.
Nyrstar Clarksville is a zinc production facility employing 248 people. The company has qualified for the Governor’s Award by working more than one million hours without a lost time or restricted duty incident.
