Staff Will Promote Veterans Services

CHATTANOOGA —Beginning May 23 rd the staff at the Southeast Tennessee Career Center will focus on veterans in honor of the Memorial Day holiday. The center will be open all week with regular hours, but will feature seminars and classes such as “Demilitarizing Your Resume,” “Internet Job Search” and “Ace Your Interview.” A display in the lobby will honor all military services with literature on military benefits and veterans organizations.

Tennessee 's veteran population is approximately one half million. Annually, our local Tennessee Career Centers provide some type of service to more than 31,000 veterans. All U.S. military veterans are eligible for job referral and referral to training programs through the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development offices and the Tennessee Career Centers.

Tennessee Career Centers serve as an outreach to veterans and ensure veterans' preference in referral to jobs and other services. Employment-related testing, training information, skills assessment, referral, and case management are among the services provided.

While these services are important to veterans, they are especially important to the employer who is seeking a job applicant with experience and good work skills. Our local veterans’ staff specializes in matching employer needs with veterans making the transition from military to civilian work. This one-on-one approach helps ensure a better job match for the employer.

The Southeast Career Center offers job assistance to both job seekers and employers. They offer free use of phones, fax and copy machines and computers with Internet access and library information for job seekers. The staff in the office can help employers find qualified employees through pre-screening and assessment and provides access to labor market information.

For more information and seminar times contact Chris Cole or Cynthia Cox at the Southeast Career Center at (423) 894-5354.
