30th ANNUAL SAFETY & HEALTH CONGRESS A SUCCESS
APPROXIMATELY 1,800 IN ATTENDANCE
NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Safety & Health Congress celebrated their 30th annual Congress at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center, July 22-25. Approximately 1,800 safety and health professionals attended the event from around the state. A total of 140 safety & health exhibitors were featured in the exhibit hall.
The Congress planned a variety of activities for the attendees. Several workshops were held on safety and health topics ranging from how to handle stress to bringing the fun back to safety. The exhibition hall had representatives from all sorts of safety and health companies from Star Physical Therapy to Happy Feet. The closing session featured an awards ceremony that honored 15 employers for their dedication to workplace safety. For a list of those companies go to http://www.state.tn.us/labor-wfd/news/news.htm.
One person in particular who was pleased with the way things went this year is Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration (TOSHA) Administrator, John Winkler, who said, “TOSHA and the Safety & Health Congress had anticipated a lot of enthusiasm for the 30th annual Congress, but it exceeded our expectations. The feedback from the delegation indicated all of the speakers and activities were outstanding, which made this one of the best congresses yet!”
“As one of the founders of the Safety Congress 30 years ago, it could not have been a better anniversary that this Congress put on for the delegates attending. The event was a huge success and one of the largest ever held,” said James G. Neeley, Commissioner of the Department of Labor & Workforce Development.
The purpose of the Congress is to bring together persons engaged in safety and health to discuss topics of mutual concern that affect working men and women. The Congress also develops coordination among public and private safety and health organizations to promote methods and procedures leading to increased worker safety and health.
