NASHVILLE — Governor Phil Bredesen has proclaimed November 7-11 “Hire Vets First Week” in Tennessee. Tennessee Career Centers across the state will host a veterans’ open house on Wednesday, November 9, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Veterans and employers will get a tour of the Tennessee Career Centers and learn about the services offered.
“I am pleased to dedicate this week to the men and women who have served our country. Their talent and dedication have helped strengthen Tennessee’s families and communities, and I invite all Tennesseans to join me in honoring this group,” Bredesen said. “ Tennessee’s veteran population of approximately one-half million is a tremendous resource for all Tennessee employers.”
“Every year our Tennessee Career Centers provide employment services to more than 31,000 veterans,” said Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development Commissioner James Neeley. “Our veterans’ program is rated best in the southeast and is considered one of the best in the United States. Tennessee employers should consider the skills and real-world knowledge of our veterans.”
The Tennessee Career Centers offer a knowledgeable veterans’ staff to provide one-on-one service in matching employer needs with veterans to make the transition from military to civilian work a little easier. Our services include employment-related testing, training information, skills assessment, assistance with job referral and job search techniques and local job market information.
