WHAT IS TRA/TAA?
TRA (Trade Readjustment Allowances) is for workers who have lost jobs due to the importing of foreign-made products which have contributed significantly to the loss of a job. A TRA petition may be filed by a group of three or more workers, by the union or by other duly-authorized representatives. The local Unemployment Office maintains the form necessary to file for a petition.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR A DECISION TO BE MADE ON THE PETITION?
The petition form is sent to the U.S. Department of Labor for an investigation. The investigation may take as long as 90 days or less.

HOW WILL I KNOW IF THE PETITION IS APPROVED?
The workers will be notified in writing, and will be notified as to when and where to file the TRA Initial Claim, and the information will also be published in local newspapers, etc.

I AM IN TRAINING, AND THE SCHOOL WILL BE CLOSED DURING CHRISTMAS FOR SEVERAL DAYS.  WILL I BE PAID WHILE I AM OUT OF SCHOOL?
If a scheduled break in training is less than 14 days, the weeks of the break are payable on TRA. If the scheduled break in training is more than 14 days, the weeks that the school is closed for an entire week will not be payable on TRA.

WHEN ARE TRA CHECKS WRITTEN?
There are two check runs per week. One on Monday night. One on Thursday night.
