IRS FORM 1099G
INFORMATION ON BENEFITS PAID AND TAXES WITHHELD IN A CALENDAR YEAR
Here you can view information related to the total amount of unemployment benefits paid to you during the most recently completed calendar year.
Unemployment compensation is subject to federal income tax. This must be reported as income on your federal income tax return even if you have repaid some or all of the benefits received. You are not required to submit a copy of your Form 1099G with your income tax return.
In January of each year, one or more IRS Form 1099G is prepared and mailed to each claimant who received unemployment compensation during the previous calendar year. This form shows the total amount of unemployment compensation you were paid during the calendar year (January 1 through December 31), and the amount of federal income tax withheld from your unemployment compensation. Several different types of unemployment compensation were available in 2012. Separate Form 1099G’s will be issued for claimants who received regular Tennessee Unemployment Compensation benefits, Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) and/or benefits from the Trade Readjustment Act (TRA). If you are a claimant who is to receive more than one Form 1099G, the actual delivery of these separate pieces of mail might not occur on the same day.
The Department of Labor and Workforce Development will mail the 1099G forms by the IRS deadline, January 31. If you do not receive your 1099G through the mail, the information will be made available on our web site in subsequent weeks. As soon as this information is available online, you can print a copy of the screen which shows the amounts you were paid and the amount of tax withheld.
The U.S. Postal Service will not forward 1099G forms. Please keep your address current with your Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development office.
