National Breastfeeding Month 2017

In 2011, the United States Breastfeeding Committee (USBC) declared August as National Breastfeeding Month (view the USBC proclamation here).  According to the 2015-2016 National Immunization Survey (NIS) breastfeeding data published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):

Black Breastfeeding Week - Black Breastfeeding Week strives to highlight and celebrate African-American breastfeeding mothers and professionals  and bring awareness to lingering racial disparity in breastfeeding within communities.   According to the CDC, 85.7% of white women had ever breastfed compared to 68% of black women.  In Tennessee, breastfeeding initiation for white infants was 22% higher than black infants in 2015.  Black Breastfeeding Week 2017 theme encourages you to Bet on Black and Lift Every Baby.  For more information, visit their website and Facebook pages.
