Internal Audit's Strategic Direction

Mission
To provide objective, accurate, and meaningful information about department operations so executive management can make informed decisions to better utilize public funds.

Basic Premise
It is our basic premise that public funds are to be applied efficiently, economically, and effectively to achieve the purposes for which they were furnished. This premise is incorporated into our objectives.

Objectives
Our main objective is to determine that those entrusted with state funds are establishing and maintaining effective controls to ensure:

  • Identification of and compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Programs meet their goals and objectives
  • Valid and reliable data are obtained, maintained, and fairly disclosed
  • Resources are safeguarded against fraud, waste, and abuse.
