MEETING SET TO EXAMINE TENNESSEE NOMINATIONS TO NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES
PUBLIC INVITED TO ATTEND NASHVILLE MEETING ON MAY 28
Nashville, Tenn. - The State Review Board will meet on Wednesday, May 28, 2008, to examine Tennessee's newest proposed nominations to the National Register of Historic Places. The meeting will be held at the Clover Bottom Mansion at 2941 Lebanon Road in Nashville. It will begin at 9 a.m. The Board will vote on 10 nominations from across the state. Nominations that meet the criteria will be sent for final approval to the National Register of Historic Places in the U. S. Department of the Interior.
The nominations are:
- Davidson County: Centennial Park; Fire Hall No. 1 (Fire Halls of Nashville 1892-1938)
- Gibson County: Methodist Episcopal Church South
- Giles County: Noblit-Lytle House
- Knox County: North Hills Historic District
- Madison County: James Coble Monument; Temple B’Nai Israel
- McMinn County: First United Presbyterian Church
- Polk County: Copperhill Historic District (boundary increase)
- Robertson County: Nelson’s Greenbrier Distillery
In addition, three properties with the potential to be removed from the National Register will be reviewed. Reassessed properties include: Thomas J. Walker House (Knox County), the Home Infirmary (Montgomery County) and Ridley’s Landing (Rutherford County).
The State Review Board is composed of 13 people with backgrounds in American history, architecture, archaeology or related fields. It also includes members representing the public. The National Register program was authorized under the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966.
