Clean Air Tennessee

WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP IMPROVE AIR QUALITY?

Each of us can do something. Even Simple solutions can help.

Transportation is the single largest source of air pollution in the Southeast. Taking action to reduce your vehicle emissions is key to cleaner air!

Carpool with a friend or co-worker, use transit, avoid peak rush hours, or work from home, especially on "alert" days.

Improve your health and air quality by walking or biking to work.

Combine errands and run them in the evening when the ozone is less likely to form.

Refuel vehicles after 7p.m., reduce your speed and keep your car well-maintained.

Use gasoline-powered lawn equipment in cooler evening hours. Consider buying electric or manual lawn equipment.

Don't burn leaves trash and other materials. Open burning creates particle pollution.

Improve indoor and outdoor air quality by limiting use of wood-burning stoves and fireplaces.

Conserve energy. Use compact fluorescent light bulbs, seal around windows and doors, add insulation, and look for products with the Energy Star label to reduce energy use and save you money.

Buy "green power" when it becomes available in your area.

Support local companies that actively participate in "green energy" programs and pollution reduction efforts that benefit you.
