As the Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (DIDD) moves forward with the closure of the Arlington Developmental Center (ADC) I am implementing an organizational change effective August 20, 2009 that I believe will yield a smooth transition in supporting persons moving from the Developmental Center to the community.
The present organizational structure of the West Tennessee Region is being realigned by bringing the Arlington Developmental Center (ADC) and the West Tennessee Community Homes (WTCH) under the leadership of the West Tennessee Regional Office (WTRO) and the Division’s Assistant Commissioner of Community Services. They will ensure a cohesive continuum of care for these citizens who are being integrated into the community.
This is a monumental event in the lives of these persons, their families and those who love them. It is of the utmost importance that people who have lived in a large institutional setting have the opportunity to take their rightful place in the community. The Division shall be ever vigilant in its efforts to ensure that the values and principles of person centered practices, individual choice, respect, safety and security, stakeholder input, and professionalism guide this effort.
