The Buddy Walk is a celebration of the abilities and accomplishments of people in our community who have Down syndrome. The event is free and open to the public, and includes carnival games, crafts, activities, live music, and a 1/2 mile fun walk. Over 2,500 people attended last year's event, including individuals with Down syndrome, their families, friends, professionals, and community members from across Middle Tennessee.
The Buddy Walk was developed by the National Down Syndrome Society in 1995 to promote acceptance and awareness of people with Down syndrome. The Buddy Walk has grown from 17 walks in 1995 to over 250 in 2010. We eSncourage our heroes with Down syndrome to invite sidekick buddies - everyone from friends and family to teachers, neighbors, legislators and celebrities-to join them on the Buddy Walk. Every participant helps promote the importance of understanding, acceptance and awareness. Whether you have Down syndrome or know someone who does or just want to show your support, come and be a hero at the Buddy Walk.
