The Direct Support Professional Association of Tennessee (DSPAT) is composed of direct support employees from all of the state-supported and assisted living agencies, and day service and job training programs. DSP’s work with members of the developmental disabilities community providing direct support, training, friendship, counseling and, most of all, care.
DSPAT strives for improved employment standards for the direct support workforce, which in turn will also enhance the lives of those persons receiving services.
The Tennessee Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (DIDD) places great importance and value on DSP’s. DIDD and DSPAT are working to enhance the standard of living for DSP’s. Attention is being focused on wages and benefits, education and training, job opportunities, security and communication. DSP’s are the frontline of care. A strong and solid, well-equipped workforce leads to better service for those persons DIDD supports.
