  • The CPS Investigator Training Academy is a non-consecutive three-week program focusing on how to conduct thorough investigations. All DCS CPS Investigators will graduate from this Academy.

To ensure the Academy meets the needs of the Investigators, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spent time shadowing the Department of Children's Services' Investigators in both urban and rural regions across Tennessee. The courses are based on best practice and will provide Investigators with the knowledge and tools to do their job efficiently and effectively.

The Department believes partnerships play a vital role in protecting children, developing youth, strengthening families, and building safe communities. Partners who train together build stronger partnerships and allow the Department to reach and maintain this mission. During each group of the academy the Department reserves spots for Child Protective Investigation Team partners to participate alongside CPS investigations staff.

  • The CPS Investigator Post Academy is designed to supplement and build on skills learned during the three week CPS Investigator Training Academy. The CPS Investigator Post Academy is a five-day training program provided in three areas of the state:  Jackson, Knoxville and Nashville. Courses were selected based on feedback from CPS investigators across Tennessee.

We strongly encourage CPS investigators and Child Protective Investigation Team partners to train together and reserve spots during each session for CPIT partners.
