Prison emergencies demand an immediate response by skilled, organized teams. The Tennessee Department of Correction has established tactical response teams which perform a number of duties including forced cell moves, searches, quelling disturbances or even unexpected life-threatening hostage situations. Tactical team members are correctional professionals who have undergone 80 hours of specialized tactical training. The basic 80 hours of training include:

The Hostage Negotiators Workshop is a 40 hour program that provides training for hostage negotiators within the Tennessee Department of Correction. Hostage situations are a factor in correctional facilities, and it is imperative that negotiators be trained in effective intervention techniques. This training includes:
