Message from Fire Program Director.

 

Greetings,

 

The Fire Service Program of the Academy is charged with the responsibility of providing training and education to the state’s fire service personnel. This mission is quite unique in comparison to traditional training and educational opportunities. Fire service students must learn and competently perform skills and techniques that they will be depended upon to use in directly protecting and saving lives and property of the citizens of the State of Tennessee from the ravages of fire. At the same time, the knowledge and skills they learn in class is critical in providing for their own health and safety. With this in mind, the Academy is committed to providing safe and effective training to meet the needs of the Tennessee fire and emergency services.

 

With approximately 23,000 firefighters in the state and more than 70% of those being volunteers, it is of paramount importance to have a diversified delivery system for courses in order to provide the maximum opportunity for all fire service personnel to participate. To accomplish this, the Academy continues to deliver programming across the state to local communities, as well as in-depth training at the Academy campus. Through our Field Extension (Regional) Program we deliver quality programs at the fire department and local area level. Basic to advanced courses are available through this program and are designed to be stand alone programs and/or prepare the student to take additional and advanced programming at the Academy. Residential programs provide basic through advanced courses in a broad range of specialized subject areas at the Academy campus in Bedford County, Tennessee. Much of the on-campus programming incorporates hands-on “live” fire and rescue activities utilizing realistic, challenging simulations and training props to enhance skill development. Even the experienced veteran of the fire service will find new and challenging training opportunities available through the Academy.

 

Tennessee has a long tradition of being a leader in fire service training beginning with the state’s commitment to training by creating the original state fire school in 1955. This tradition has been upheld throughout the years by a dedicated staff, the “partnerships” with various state fire and emergency service associations, and fire service personnel from across the state. The Tennessee Fire Service and Codes Enforcement Academy is proud to carry-on the state’s tradition of excellence in Fire Service training. We are here to serve you, the fire service of the state of Tennessee, and look forward to assisting you in meeting your fire and emergency response training needs.
