This course provides the information necessary to the student to properly understand and use the Standard
Building Code (SBC), International Residential Code (IRC) and the International Building Code (IBC) for
wood-frame construction of walls. The student gains knowledge on the proper techniques for framing
with traditional and engineered wood products. Standards referenced in the code will be reviewed and
their application will be illustrated. Special attention is given to engineered wood products. Particular
areas of emphasis include installation requirements unique features peculiar to braced wall requirements
for seismic-resistive construction. The purpose of this course is to provide the student with the required
information needed to enable him/her to be familiar with and understand the SBC, IRC and IBC
conventional wood-frame construction and engineered wood-frame construction with respect to wall
bracing and framing.
