State Fire Marshal’s Office, Alamo Fire Department to Install Smoke Alarms April 22

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO) will join forces with the Alamo Volunteer Fire Department (Crockett County) to install free smoke alarms in homes throughout Alamo on Saturday, April 22, 2017.

Working in conjunction with 50 local volunteers, organizers plan to target 400 homes in eight different areas of the town during the one-day canvass. The door-to-door event is part of the SFMO’s “Get Alarmed, Tennessee!” program which aims to prevent fire deaths in Tennessee through the provision of smoke alarms and fire prevention education.

The event was planned in response to the death of a 40-year-old woman in Alamo on March 11, 2017 after a malfunctioning wall heater caused the duplex she was sleeping in to catch fire. There were no smoke alarms present in the home.

Since the “Get Alarmed” program’s inception in 2012, the SFMO has distributed over 144,000 smoke alarms statewide to 496 partnering organizations and recently celebrated the 180th documented save from an installed "Get Alarmed!" smoke alarm.
