Arts Access Program

The Tennessee Arts Commission's Arts Access program is committed to providing access to the arts to Tennessee's underserved constituents. Those constituents considered underserved include: people of color (Black/African American, Asian, Native Hawaiian/Pacfic Islander, Native American/Alaska Native and people of Hispanic or Latino ethnicities), people with disabilities, people living in rural communities or isolated settings, children and citizens who are over 65 years of age or older.

Although organizations and individuals from these specific underserved groups may not receive direct funding through the Arts Access program, they are encouraged to apply for funding from other Commission grant categories.  The Arts Access program director and other Commission staff members are available for information and consultations by telephone, through electronic mail and in-person meetings to discuss proposed projects and to direct underserved constituents to the appropriate grant category or program.  See Arts Access Resources for more information.

Grant Categories

Arts Access (AA):  Funds awarded in this category are made possible, in part, through a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.  This grant category offers direct support for arts projects to arts organizations of color and to organizations whose programs and services primarily benefit persons of color. See the Arts Access program grant guidelines for eligibility and more information.

Arts Access Technical Assistance (AA-TA): This category provides funds for special assistance during the Commission's fiscal year, that are primarily used to bring in an outside consultant for intensive work needed to strengthen the applicant organization's managerial and operational capabilities. This category provides technical assistance funds to arts organizations of color and to arts organizations chartered in Tennessee to serve people with disabilities. See the Arts Access Technical Assistance grant guidelines for eligibility and more information.

Arts Access Touring Arts (AA-TR): This category brings professional Tennessee artist of color or artist with disabilities to communities across the state by providing financial assistance to qualified presenter/sponsors. The Arts Access Touring Arts program is designed to encourage interaction between artists and community members by requiring an outreach activity in additioon to the more formal arts events. See the Arts Access Touring Arts grant guidelines for eligibility and more information.
